Board Certified Pediatric Endocrinologist
Mina Kim, M.D., F.A.A.P.,
D.A.B.P.E. |
|

I am so pleased and excited to have opened a pediatric practice devoted to caring for children and adolescents with
diabetes and other endocrine issues. Before working at Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Specialists, I held a part-time
faculty position at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, in the Dept of Pediatric Endocrinology, where I also completed my
Pediatrics residency and Endocrinology training. Prior to moving to Connecticut for my training, I lived in Boston,
Massachusetts, where I attended Boston University School of Medicine.
During my fellowship training, I became interested in hypoglycemia and its
effects on the developing brain. I was the recipient of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society
Pharmacia Fellowship
Grant, and my research findings were published in The American Journal of Physiology.
When I am not seeing patients, I spend my time taking care of our 2 daughters, Julia (5) and Elena (2), along with my husband,
Tony. We live in Southbury, CT.
We have a really great team of providers here at Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Specialists. We all share the same goal of
providing state-of-the-art care for our patients, without the hassles of a "big institution" close to home. We look forward
to meeting you and your family!

Pediatric Nurse Practitioners
They have been certified as diabetes educators and have over 20 years of experience between them
caring for children and young
adults with diabetes in this region.

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Doyle, and I was so
happy to join Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes
Specialists in June of 2008. I have lived in
Connecticut since I was six years old. I have
always wanted to be a nurse for children since I
was a small child. I completed my bachelor's degree
at Villanova University, a nursing diploma at St
Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT, and my
master's degree from Yale University in the
pediatric nurse practitioner program in 1995. It
was here at Yale where my passion developed for
caring for children with diabetes. After completing
a concentration in diabetes care during my final
year at Yale University, I joined the Yale
Pediatric Diabetes Team as a pediatric nurse
practitioner upon graduation, and worked there for
the following 13 years.
While at Yale I had both a clinical and research role, with my research work most recently centering on diabetes technology,
particularly continuous glucose sensors. Through all of these years working with diabetes, I developed such a great
appreciation and awe for our families who must learn to live with this condition every day of their life. My goal in
practice has always been to try to help children with diabetes to obtain the best control of their condition as possible,
while at the same time minimizing the impact on the quality of life of them and their family.
This certainly is a challenge!!
In June of 2008, I joined Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Specialists. I have greatly enjoyed the continuity of care
with families inherent within a private practice such as this, as opposed to a university/hospital setting.
I also am so pleased that we are able to offer state of the art diabetes care in my home area, Fairfield County.
(I live in Wilton, CT). We are excited to be able to offer different services, such as educational programs and
support groups to families in this region.
When not working, I spend all of my free time with my husband John, and our two beautiful children, James (3)
and Mary Kate (2), and hoping that the New York Yankees are playing in October.

Miranda Vincent, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., P.N.P.-B.C., C.D.E.
Miranda Vincent has been
a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes
Educator for almost 10 years. She, with Dr. Mina Kim and
Elizabeth Doyle have created Pediatric Endocrine and
Diabetes Specialists to serve children and families in
and around Fairfield County. Miranda's passion for
children with diabetes began when she worked as a
registered nurse on the pediatric inpatient floor at
Yale New Haven Hospital. She cared for children newly
diagnosed with diabetes. Although she thoroughly enjoyed
educating and working with families, she found herself
wanting to continue to work with those families after
discharge. This led to her enrollment in the Pediatric
Nurse Practitioner program at the Yale University School
of Nursing. She earned her masters degree with a
specialty in diabetes care in 1999. After graduation,
she worked with the Yale Pediatric Diabetes Program for
over seven years. Miranda is excited to be part of this
new private practice and feels that this team will
provide personalized, state of the art diabetes care.
Miranda lives in Fairfield with her husband, Mark and
their three children, Sam (7), Tess (6), and Henry (1).

Carolyn Gundell, M.S.

I am pleased to be
able to combine my passion for nutrition & fitness
with my love of children as a member of Pediatric
Endocrine & Diabetes Specialists team. I enjoy
talking with children about their eating choices and
behaviors, and helping to inspire them to view
nutrition as fun, life-affirming, and a positive
adventure. I take pleasure helping families
learn how to empower their children to be
independent and capable eaters and to develop
healthy and fun lifestyle behaviors that can last a
lifetime.
I have extensive
experience working directly in pediatric community
and clinical programs for infants, toddlers through
adolescence, with a special interest in pediatric
endocrine related conditions such as; obesity,
failure to thrive, cardiovascular disease, insulin
resistance, diabetes-type 1/type 2, and PCOS. My
past work at Yale School of Medicine Pediatric
Endocrinology-Obesity, Diabetes, and Lipid Disorders
Clinic gave me valuable skills, knowledge and
experience.
I am
also skilled in assessing and working with children
who have feeding & special needs issues, ADHD,
autism, food allergies and restricted diets,
gastrointestinal conditions, disordered eating,
dietary deficiencies; and in addition provide
specific education for sports nutrition, vegetarian
meal planning... and more.
I have
spent over twenty years consulting with and working
in child care, school, and teen center environments
providing child health & nutrition assessments,
family education, and program technical assistance.
My accomplishments in early childhood education
private, state, and federal programs have earned me
the reputation as "nutrition mentor and expert" on
infant, toddler, and preschool feeding.
When not
working with the Pediatric Endocrine & Diabetes
Specialists team, I am enjoying my life in Wilton,
CT with my husband who happens to be a fabulous cook
and talented professional musician and my teen
daughter, who in her own right has taught me so much
about feeding infants, young children and teens. I
am also the business owner of "Nutritionally
Speaking" --offering individual and workshop
nutrition education.
